Building Feldy’s Component Library in Storybook for frontend

Building a reusable design system to bring more consistency to Feldy's AI-assisted design workflow.

, In progress

Our team had started designing with Claude, and the results kept drifting from Feldy’s patterns. I proposed bringing our design system into Storybook, so the interfaces we generate and build start from the same components.

Feldy’s Storybook: the sidebar lists Foundations (tokens, shadows, spacing, typography, corner radius) and components from Table to Project Detail Top Bar. The Tokens page is open, explaining how tokens work and listing text colours with their swatch, token, value and use.
Feldy’s Storybook brings reusable components, interaction states, and design guidelines into one place.

Faster designs, less consistency

At Feldy, we’d started using Claude to explore designs and generate interfaces. Our product owner used it too, to try out product ideas quickly.

But the designs it produced were inconsistent. Some components ignored our existing patterns, and the product already had a few inconsistencies of its own.

Fixing the foundation, not each design

Rather than correcting AI-generated designs one at a time, I proposed bringing our design system into Storybook: reusable components with clear rules, to guide future design and development.

The longer-term goal is for Claude to reference our real component library when it generates designs. That connection isn’t built yet. This is the foundation it needs.

As design lead, I define the components and document how they behave. I implement them with Claude Code in VS Code, reviewing what it writes and testing as I go.

Still in progress

This project is ongoing, so the case study stops here for now. I’ll add the rest as the work progresses.
